Welcome back to school

Welcome Lucerne Elementary Families:

I am thrilled to welcome students back to school for the 2022-23 school year.  The staff here has been busy getting the school ready for the return of students.  We have several new faces on campus this school year and we are so happy to welcome them.   I would like to introduce Yessenia De La Torre the new kindergarten teacher. Dawn Tanner is joining our staff as the new first-grade teacher.  In the 2nd grade, Elaine Brown will be welcoming students on the first day of school. Amy Kunis is the new 4th-grade teacher and David Thorley is the new 4th/5th-grade teacher. Finally, I would like to welcome Becky Kenner as the new Assistant Principal.

We also have a few returning staff that have had a change in job position. Maddie Ford is moving from 2nd grade to the 1st grade. Heather Werner is moving from the Math Intervention to the 3rd-grade classroom.  Danielle Meader is going to be teaching the 7th-grade class this year. Finally, I am grateful and honored to be the new principal of Lucerne Elementary School.

There are some things that you should know before school starts that will help all of our families navigate the school expectations.

Visitor policy: I am excited to say that families are welcome on campus this school year in the mornings before school starts. Families can come and see the classrooms and meet their student’s teachers from 8:00-8:25 a.m. All parents will need to exit the school at 8:25 a.m. so that the teachers can start their school day with their class.

Visitors to the classroom during the school day: Parents and Guardians can volunteer in the classroom with permission from the classroom teacher. Once the teacher gives permission to the parent or guardian they will need to sign a code of conduct. Our COVID plans also require that all volunteers will need to either show proof of vaccination status, take a rapid test, or be masked while on campus. The only exception to this practice will be during assemblies. During assemblies, visitors will be able to come onto campus without having to complete these requirements.

How to find out which class your student is in: One way is to sign into the schoolwise parent portal where you completed your online registration. Once signed in you should be able to view your student and in the student profile, it will name the teacher. Second, the class lists are posted outside of the office on Tuesday, August 9th at 4:30 p.m.

School meals: Breakfast and lunch are free to all of our students. Tk-3rd students will eat breakfast with their classes at 8:30 a.m. Students in the 4th-8th grade will need to go into the cafeteria to eat between 8:00-8:25 a.m. Please reference the bell schedule to know when classes eat lunch. Students can bring their own food from home to eat at recess time.

School communication: There are several ways to stay informed on school events. Make sure to receive school emails and texts by keeping your contact information up to date with the school office. We send home bi-monthly school newsletters with your students, please look for them in your student’s homework binder or folder. Another great way to keep up to date with school events is by downloading the “Lucerne Elementary” app through the googleplay or itunes store.

I look forward to seeing all of the students on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 10th.
