SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS
The school board meets the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm. Meetings are open to the public. The next school board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
The School Site Council meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m. in room C8. The next school site council meeting will be held on Thursday, February 2 at 7:30 a.m. in room C-8.
This is a great opportunity to learn about school programs and increase parent involvement.
SECOND QUARTER AWARDS' ASSEMBLY
On Friday, January 20th, we will hold our second quarter Awards Assembly. Perfect Attendance, Penmanship, Principal's Honor Roll, Math Facts, and Honor Roll certificates will be presented to eligible students. All parents, friends and community members are welcome to attend. The awards schedule is as follows:
Kindergarten - 4th: 9:15 a.m.
5th through 8th: 9:45 a.m.
CHARACTER COUNTS
We will be focusing on the character pillar of RESPECT in January. Please discuss with your student ways they can show RESPECT this month. The best way to teach your children good character is to lead by example. The next Character Counts assembly will be held Friday, February 3rd.
S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G B-E-E
It's that time of year again for the annual Lucerne Elementary Spelling Bee. We will be holding our 1st-6th grade school competition on Thursday, February 9th at 1:30 p.m., in the school cafeteria. The 7th-8th grades are scheduled on Friday, February 10th at 2:00 pm. The school-site champions will then move on to the countywide spelling bee.
SCHOOL HOLIDAY
Monday, February 13, 2012 will be a school holiday in recognition of President Lincoln's Birthday. There will be no school for students and staff.
Also on Monday, February 20, 2012, there will be no school for students and staff in observance of Presidents' Day.

NEW IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENT
Pertussis is widespread. If your child 10 years and older has not received the Tdap pertussis booster shot, please contact your doctor or health department. Getting a booster shot now will protect your child against the ongoing threat of pertussis and meet a new school requirement that begins in the 2011-2012 school year (California law ~ Assembly Bill 354) Adults are also advised to get a pertussis booster shot, if they haven't already, to protect themselves, their families, and their students.
